I. About the University

MCU Was founded on September 11, 1955 by Perkumpulan Intelegensia Kristen Cabang Bandung (Christian Scientist Fellowship-Bandung Chapter) with the support of Gereja Kristen Indonesia Christian Church) and Gereja Kristen Pasundan (Pasundan Christian Church). The university was initially made up of only one faculty: the Faculty of Medicine. In the year 1966, the Faculty of Engineering (the Civil Engineering Department), the Faculty of Psychology and the Faculty of Letters (the English department) were added to the university. A year later, the Electrical Engineering Department was added. In 1985, the Faculty of Economics and the Industrial Engineering Department were added to the university. In 1992 study programmes offered by Maranatha Christian University were extended to the include D-3 Programme (3-year Diploma) for English and the Japanese department.

Today’s industrial world demands professional workforces capable of communicating in Mandarin as well as in English. To meet the demand, in 2001 MCU started a D-3 Programme for Chinese. Apart from the need of communication, the fast-paced development in information technology has compelled Maranatha Christian University to produce qualified professionals in the field of Information technology. In the year 2002, the new D-3 Programme for Information Technology was established.

By 2003, Maranatha Christian University added Department of Information Technology as well as D-3 Programme for Art and Design.In addition, in 2002 MCU also started to offer post-graduate programmes for Master of Management and in 2003 Master of Psychology; in 2004 Department of Fine Art, Department Interior Design, Department of Visual Communication Design; Department of Information System; in 2006 Chinese Department, Dual Degree Programme (Civil Engineering and Information System), Masters of Business Administration programme; and in 2007 Computer Engineering Department.

It is our vision that Maranatha Christian University becomes an independent and self-supporting institution of higher education which explores and instills knowledge in all areas of the arts and sciences, undergirded by the love and example of Jesus Christ. It is our mission to carry out the mandate of the Three-Fold Purpose for a Christian Higher Education Institution, that is, “first in knowledge, first in service, and first in faith “, by education men and women in an atmosphere which is conducive to academic achievement and which reflects Christian values.

II. Faculty/Department

The Undergraduate Programme has a study load of at least 144 credits and at the most 160 credits, except The Faculty of Medicine, which has a non-credit study load due to the use of KBK(Kurikulum Berbasis Kompetensi = Competence-Based Curriculum) programme. The Undergraduate Programme can be completed within 8 semesters or less.

III. International Cooperation and Exchanges

On September 29th 2007, the unveil ceremony of Chinese Language and Culture Center was held by Maranatha Christian University situated in Bandung of Indonesia. On that day, intercollegiate cooperation agreements have been also signed between MCU and Hebei Normal University of China, which marked the foundation of the council for the Center and the beginning of the cultural and academic exchanges of the two universities. The good neighborly and friendly relations between the two universities have entered a new stage of development in all dimensions.
