Formerly the “Teachers' College” of the famous Southwest Associated University, Yunnan Normal University was jointly founded by Peking, Tsinghua and Nankai University. In February 1999, the former Yunnan Normal University, Yunnan Education College and Yunnan Physical Training Teachers' College merged and formed the currrent Yunnan Normal University (YNNU). YNNU is now a key comprehensive university of Yunnan province. YNNU covers 464 hectares, and consists of three campuses. The University is composed of 23 schools or institutes and 34 research institutes, offering 41 master's degree programs, 44 BA programs and 25 minor degree programs.
Cooperation
The YNNU has established academic exchange and research programs in affiliation with universities in the U.S., Germany, France, Britain, Thailand, Australia, Vietnam, and other countries as well; more than 140 foreign experts and professors have been invited to teach at the university. Yunnan Normal University (YNNU) is one of the 10 key universities in China in support of Chinese language teaching for neighboring countries, one of the 4 bases in China in training of Chinese language teachers for Southeast Asian countries, one of the first 16 Chinese universities in undertaking of overseas Confucius Institutes, and one of the Chinese universities responsible for training overseas Chinese language teaching volunteers.
