1. Foundation date:
The College of Foreign Languages (CFL) was founded in 1955
2. Mandate:
- To offer undergraduate, Master and PhD programs to provide qualified foreign language teachers, translators and interpreters as well as to offer courses on the language and culture of the countries where these languages are spoken and to develop human resources in foreign languages;
- To carry out research on foreign language pedagogy, second language acquisition, cross-cultural and intercultural communication, linguistics and applied linguistics.

7. Research and Application:
The College focuses on the following research priority areas:
- Contrastive analysis between Vietnamese and other languages;
- Cross-cultural studies;
- Contextually appropriate language teaching methodology;
- Intercultural studies;
- Vietnamese students’ learning styles;
- The impact of culture on students’ learning strategies.
8. International Cooperation:
CFL has always pursued a policy of bilateral and multi-lateral cooperation with educational institutions, governmental and non-governmental organizations. Committed to its strategy for enhancement of its excellence in training and research, CFL has been forward-looking and pro-active in interactions with the world’s higher education community. Academic links, which have been established between CFL and fifty-five institutions all over the world, have increased the exposure of the College’s faculty and students to state-of-the-art developments in language education and language teacher education. Through international co-operation and partnership, the College has enjoyed valuable support and assistance from its partner institutions for staff and resource development.
Forms of cooperation might include: exchange of academic information and materials, staff and student exchange, development of joint research programs and projects, co-organization of conferences, workshops, seminars and training courses, partnership in developing and delivering new courses or customized training programs. Currently, there are nearly 200 foreign students studying at CFL.
High priorities are given to the joint development and delivery of degree programs in such areas as Business Administration, Educational Leadership, Hospitality Industry, Applied Linguistics, etc with English and other languages being the medium of instruction. The College welcomes international partners who are keen on those programs.
