Under the Institute of Technology and Vocational Education Act 1975, the Institute of Technology and Vocational Education (ITVE) was founded on 27 February 1975. As a department under the Ministry of Education, it took the key role as a tertiary education institute in offering educational programs, undertaking research, providing academic services to the community and nourishing the national arts and culture. Later, the Institute humbly requested a grant from His Majesty the King to use His Majesty's name, or an alternative, in the renaming of the institute. Thus, the name Rajamangala Institute of Technology (RIT) was granted as its name on 15 September 1988. Later, this day was to be named ‘Rajamangala Day’ – the day that all personnel gather together at its main campus at Tambon Khlong Hok, Pathum Thani Province to express their high respect and gratitude to His Majesty, the King. The institute has developed for more than 30 years and is now recognized for its high educational quality.
Eventually, RIT became nationwide with 9 Rajamangala Universities of Technology campuses, in accordance with the Rajamangala University of Technology Act of 2004.
The original campus located on Rangsit-Nakhon Nayok Road
, Tambon Khlong Hok, Pathum Thani Province consisted of more than 750-rai in total land area was renamed on 18 January 2005 to Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi (RMUTT).
Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi (RMUTT) maintains its original focus on quality teaching of science and technology.
