The "Confucius Institute" mainly offers training of Chinese for special purposes for the public and professional training for teachers of the Chinese language. All these trainings fall into the category of non-degree education. The teaching focus provided here is the applied Chinese. "Confucius Institute" will also assist Prince of Songkla University by offering courses to support degree programs like Chinese language major and Chinese as public courses and cooperate with PSU in academic research. Prince of Songkla University of Thailand and Guangxi Normal University of P. R. China established collaboratively Confucius Institute, financially supported by the Chinese National Office for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language in December 2006 to promote the relationship between the two universities, to enhance the understanding of Chinese language and culture among Thai Chinese learners as well as providing them with good learning conditions, to reinforce the Chinese language education and its academic standards, and the most important of all, to further develop the friendship between Chinese and Thai peoples. Who is Confucius: Confucius (Kong Fu Zi), a humble man from poor beginnings, became so influential that his teachings inspired a philosophy, a religion, and a way of life that has lasted until today. He gathered students around him and taught the basics of what is today called Confucianism. He taught decorous, courtly behavior, duty to rulers, parents, and older brothers. Confucianism: Confucian philosophy seeks a harmonious society, not dependent on feudal or financial merit but based on the ultimate goodness and moral equality of all mankind. The heart of the Confucian teaching is 'morality'. Ren is the key. Ren means the qualities of benevolence, humanity and love. It is the duty of governments, parents and teachers to cultivate Ren in all its aspects. Also important is Li, meaning rituals, ceremonies and how to behave. Then there is Yi, meaning duty or righteous behavior. There is also Zhi, which means wisdom, derived from both history and experience. Another virtue is Cong, meaning reciprocity: 'Do not do unto others what you would not have them do unto you'. II.Definition "Confucius Institute" is a non-profit public institute with a mission of promoting Chinese language and culture and supporting local Chinese teaching. It abides by the local law and regulations and is subject to supervision and inspections from the local educational administrative authorities. III.
