The Confucius Institute at Prince of Songkla University was set up cooperatively by Guangxi Normal University under the authority of Hanban, China, and Prince of Songkla University, Thailand in December 2006. 

Prince of Songkla University, established in 1965, is a top university in Southern Thailand, and it is now one of the key universities in the country. It has provided a host of talents of various fields to the Thai society, especially in south Thailand.

The main campus of Prince of Songkla University locates in Hat Yai city in the southern Thailand. This city is the third largest city in Thailand, and the center of commerce, transportation, and tourism of south Thailand.

The Chinese language in Hat Yai is in its fast development, and this Confucius Institute is the first higher education academy in this area to teach Chinese language.
