I am a freshman in the College of Computer Science and Technology in Guizhou University. Even though I am just 16 years old, I have already been around the world. I am originally from India, and I lived in the town of Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh in India for the most part of the first 12 years of my life. In 2004, my father got a position in the esteemed Ivy League College named Dartmouth College in the United States of America. My mother and I accompanied him there and spent a very enjoyable year in the States. Then while my dad came back to India for some work, he got an offer from Guizhou University and we moved again!
Before I came to China, I can’t honestly say that I had a lot of expectations of this place but having lived here for so long now, I feel that Guizhou University is the place to be. Not only are the people extremely friendly and helpful, but the environment is beautiful as well. When I had first arrived here without the slightest knowledge of the Chinese language, I was astounded to find so many Chinese who could speak some decent English! They helped me and my family to get settled very quickly, and before I knew it, I had started to converse with them in Chinese. Although I wouldn’t call the Chinese Language easy ever, I will admit that having a campus full of cooperative students and teachers, definitely, let you improve your Chinese speaking skills significantly. I stayed with my parents in the Foreign Professors’ and Teachers’ Quarters while doing my High School studies in 贵州大学子弟学校. The High School was a headache at times, and I don’t think I would have got through it as easily as I did with exceptional grades if it weren’t for the wonderful studying atmosphere in the Campus. Every time I walked around the campus, I saw people discussing the things that were taught in class around a bench and that encouraged me to form a small High School study group, of sorts, in Guizhou University’s campus. By the time I graduated from High School, I had fallen in love with the University and the district of Huaxi. I did some research and found that Guizhou University’s College of Science and Technology was one of the best in the country! Even though I had always wanted to get into this amazing University, that fact just removed the very few doubts I had about Guizhou University. It’s not just about studying either! The foods and the opportunities for sports activities are exceptional here as well. Ever since I was 6, I loved Chinese food and the fact that I get to eat so many delicious foods every single day in Huaxi, hasn’t let my mind change its thoughts about the Chinese food. Here, in Guizhou University, there are a lot of foreign students from various countries that are always friendly and helpful. They make you feel at home in no time. The foreign students always seem to have one thing or another going on in the Foreigners’ Quarters that lets you take a break from the tedious University’s studies. I would recommend any and all people who are interested in this University to go ahead and apply, as you can’t really go wrong here. With everyone being so helpful here, you can adapt to the culture and the social life here in no time. ![]() ![]() |
