Guizhou University for Nationalities was founded on May 17, 1951. It is one of the earliest founded universities for nationalities, jointly run by the provincial government of Guizhou and the State Ethnic Affairs Commission of PRC. The university is situated in Huaxi, Guiyang, with an area of 883,100 square meters.
Research and teaching
The university now has 1,037 personnel, among whom 655 are teachers. 316 teachers are associate professor or above. 336 teachers have master degrees or above, which account for 51.4%. The university admits students from 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipality directly under the central government. Its student population is now over 12,000, with 9,528 full-time students, including 8,733 undergraduate and professional training students, 153 graduate students, 7 students from abroad, 212 preparatory school students, and 358 students of higher vocational training. There are also 3,916 correspondence course students. The students come from 31 nationalities, and 80% of them are from minority nationalities. After 56 years of development, the university has become a multi-disciplinary comprehensive university. The university has now 18 colleges, one department, and 3 teaching units offering courses. The university highlights scientific research and has founded 6 research institutions of its own, and 8 provincial research institutions.
International Coorperation
The university attaches great importance to international coorperation in academic research. It has had exchange and cooperation with institutions of higher education from many countries and regions, including the United States, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Norway, Singapore, Britain, the Netherlands, the Republic of Korea, France, Taiwan region and Hong Kong.
