ASEAN-China Academic Cooperation and Exchange Programme The idea of the AUN-China cooperation was initiated during the discussion between the Chairman of the AUN and H.E. Madame Chen Zhili, the Minister of Education of the People's of Republic of China (PRC) in October 1999 and April 2000 in Bangkok . After the Meeting, the “ASEAN-China Academic Co-operation and Exchange Programme” outlining possible collaborative activities between the PRC and ASEAN in the fields of human resources development and higher education, was proposed. Aim: To promote the collaboration on human resource development between ASEAN and China through academic activities. Activities: For the initial step, The Rector/Presidents from the ASEAN Member Universities and designated Chinese Universities met each other at The First ASEAN-China Rectors Conference in June 2002. The Meeting group discussed the possibilities to collaborate for mutual interest. They explored and studied out the framework and work plan for the future ASEAN-China Academic Collaboration. The University of Beijing Foreign Studies hosted the Roundtable Meeting on Chinese and ASEAN Studies between ASEAN and Chinese Universities , which was held during 18-20 May 2004 in Beijing . There were 72 participants from the AUN Member Universities and Chinese Universities . During the meeting, the result of survey on the status of ASEAN and Chinese studies in the two regions was presented. The participants also discussed about the current problems and obstacles of ASEAN-China academic cooperation.
