ZEW Paid A Visit to Xiamen UniversityResource:

On March 24, Dr. Wolfgang Franz, president of the Centre of European Economic Research (ZEW)in German Institute for Economic Research, together with Mr. Thomas Kohl, director of Business paid a visit to Xiamen University. President of Xiamen University, Mr. Zhu Chongshi, received the guests. Heads and professors from Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, the Wang Yanan Institute for Economic Studies, and Chinese Center for Energy Economics Research also attended the reception. On invitation of President Zhu Chongshi, the visit of ZEW aimed at holding further talks to generate realistic and fruitful results based on the itinerary reached in 2008 when President Zhu visited ZEW. During the meeting, president Zhu expressed his appreciation as well as support on the upcoming cooperation between two sides. He also indicated that under the joint effort of economists both from China and Germany, a promising achievement was possible even under the challenge of world financial crisis. After the meeting, ZEW and the Wang Yanan Institute for Studies in Economics will start cooperation in joint research, program of scholar exchange and holding forum in fields of labour economics and financial risk. In addition, under the joint efforts of both sides, The International Symposium of Contemporary Labour Economics will be held in December 2009.
ZEW also invited staffs of Chinese Center for Energy Economics Research for joint research work.. Since they have consistently admitting Ph.D candidates from Europe, the center starts to receive Ph.D candidates from Xiamen University.
